Attendance at Ole Miss

When it comes to attendance, the position of the University of Mississippi is that "students who attend class learn more than those who do not attend regularly." Accordingly, UM has implemented an automated attendance tracking system to help motivate students to attend class and be on time. The system supports retention efforts by flagging students who have three or more absences, it reduces the administrative burden on instructors, and it removes the need to use critical face-to-face class time for bookkeeping tasks. Students scan their student ID cards when they arrive to class using mounted, networked, touchscreen barcode scanners. These scanners are programmed to send the results in real time to SAP where they are stored using SLcM attendance functionality.
